At first light the launch was lowered down in the the calm waters and into it, the following squad lowered themselves. Joseph, for his Spanish, Gupta, Trent and Trixie, for her feminine allure. We were traveling light and Irma had determined that it would not be a good idea to be found with heavy artillery on the Island. We had been warned that arms were not to be carried on this Island and so elected to each only carry one of the Death Ray's ©.

Browning Automatic Rifle

Gupta and I took to the oars as we both had a small amount of seamanship experience. We had no problem as the sea was fairly calm that day and managed to land the launch is a secluded cove at the NORTH-EAST tip of the Island, a place called Hutuiti.

It wasn't too long before we saw 2 men on the horizon walking towards us, we had barely pulled the launce ashore, waving their arms and calling out to us. It turned out to be a Professor Winthrop Methridge and a Naval Officer called ????.

The Naval Officer inquires as to way we have not docked in the harbour port of Hangaroa and insists that we following him there to be taken before Captain Manuel Pereira Governor of the Island.

Professor Winthrop Methridge - Leader of the University team. Has made a great discovery but is in over his head.

Professor Winthrop Methridge

Professor Winthrop Methridge appeared to be happy to see us and explained his reason for being on Easter Island. It became apparent that he was agitated and excited both at the same time.

He explained how he and his team had been on the Island for 3 months now and had recently made two fascinating discoveries. The first an abandoned village and the second an old funeral monument. The second was the more significant of the two, with the location 3 miles NORTH of Hangaroa. Here they found the following items:

At the funeral monument were platforms with 3 strange stone statues for which this Island is famous for. The local natives call them Ahu-Moai. The Ahu-Moai are 150 feet long, 130 feet wide, and 20 feet high. Each Ahu-mooi was 20 feet tall. Inside this funeral monument someone uncovered a way into the monument itself. Inside they found:

  1. 16 mummified bodies found in niches
  2. Clay Vases
  3. 3 Statues

Theses Ahu-Moai, as we discovered, have also been referred to as the "Watchers". Having found the items beneath the Ahu-moai which have some relation to Fish-Men, or Deep Ones as we now know they refer to, does this mean they are linked to Great Cthulhu. The Deep Ones worship Cthulhu so are these "Watchers" watching the Stars and when they will show the coming of Great Cthulhu? or are they just protecting the Island it's self.

The Ahu-Moai

Professor Winthrop Methridge explains that the Clay Vases are covered in Rongorongo and depict Fish Men type creatures. If we thought we would avoid Deep Ones, we were wrong. We will need to follow up on this dig site.

We are finally told about the disappearances by Professor Winthrop Methridge and things become clearer as to his demeanour. The disappearances occurred the night of his discovery of the funeral monument and items within.

All of the missing people were at the same location, a camp site used by the dig members. The disappearances and or kidnappings were 6 members of the University expedition, 3 Natives of Easter Island, 2 Spanish Shepherds, and 2 sailors from the Chilean military garrison.

The 6 members of the University expedition were digging at the Abu·moai location, the 3 natives were manual labour, the 2 Spanish Shepherds were tending their flocks and the 2 sailors from the Chilean military garrison were ???.

They all had disappeared, or were taken, the night after the University expedition had discovered the statues, vases and mummies at the funeral monument. All the finds had a "fish-man" theme on them, but well know to us.

The investigation that followed found that the camp site had been dismantled or attacked, there was a strange odour about the place (could it have been a strong Fish Smell?) , and there were signs that they had attempted to cover any tracks left behind (Because they didn't looked like human feet or foot ware?).

We had no choice but to follow the The Naval Officer to Hangaroa to be presented to Captain Manuel Pereira.

Captain Manuel Pereira

Captain Manuel Pereira - Governor of the Island and has a military background. Resentful, by the book and appears to have been on this Island for many years.

We are taken to the office of Captain Manuel Pereira at Hangaroa and he did not appear to be the most welcoming of men. His suspicions began we we explained that we had not docked at Hangaroa harbour and continued with our reason for being on the Island.

He waits until a Stenographer enters the office before he beings to ask us any questions. He asks for our passports and then, surprisingly, he begins by asking me if I was Carl Stanford. Saying No, he them asked Trent and Gupta. His eyes never left me and looking back now I can see why, I bore the closest description to one they must have of Carl Stanford.

He continues questioning us and accuses us of the recent murder in La Clara, Chile. We however, could prove that we were in fact at see and our whereabouts could be collaborated by the Tramp Steamer, S. S. Semiramis, Captain and crew. I can see that beings to believe that we are not in fact Carl Stanford but wants to know the reason for us being on Easter island.

He explains how the Chilean Navy is keeping tabs on any ships in the general area looking for Carl Stanford and the other 88 members of his crew. 88 more to deal with but we have no way of knowing if that includes the ships crew or the fellow members of his followers.

Trent comes clean and clarifies our reason for being on the Island and how we are also hunting Carl Stanford for the crimes he had committed. Captain Manuel Pereira asked if we could collaborate this information and we provided the contact details of Sandy McNeil (Inverness police ), Tommy Hays (London CID) hoping this would persuade him of our true and legitimate intentions.

On hearing of our escapades, and more importantly our connection to Scotland yard, Captain Manuel Pereira becomes more amenable an give us the following information:

The Town Of Hanga-Roa

There is only one village, Called Hangaroa, on the Island. Hangaroa is the main town, harbour and capital of the Chilean province of Easter Island. It is located in the southern part of the Island's west coast, in the lowlands between the extinct volcanoes of Terevaka and Rano Kau. The local military governor is located here with about 100? garrisoning Chilean troops and officers, and some 30 civilians. The civilians are mostly foreigners who have obtained the right to raise herds of sheep on the scrub of the Island, which are often rustled by the local inhabitants.

Rule 1: While in town, you must abide by the 9 P.M. curfew.

Rule 2: No firearms are allowed on the Island. Weapons will be confiscated and returned upon departure. Weapons on a ship must remain there.

Rule 3: All members of the garrison are on national duty. No member of the garrison will be available to accompany the squad, No member of the garrison will answer questions from the squad.

Rule 4: You may hire natives as guides or workers, they are all however liars and thieves and extremely untrustworthy. We will be held responsible for any sheep stolen by hired natives while they are outside the village and under our employ.

Rule 5: Due to the continuing investigations of the disappearances by the military authorities, any information uncovered must be reported to Captain Manuel Pereira. Failure to do so is a criminal offense.

Rule 6: We must keep Captain Manuel Pereira informed as to our whereabouts and plans. We must not attempt to make arrests or take action into our own hands, that's Captain Manuel Pereira's job.

Have they been, as suggested by Gaidar, taken so they could be fed upon by Carl Stanford to extend his life. Or are they sacrifices to Cthulhu and or for the raising of the City of R’Lyeh?

Professor Winthrop Methridge had suggested to us that if we needed a guide. He had live on the Island for a few years now and know the locals.

Jather Jorge Haedo

Father Jorge Haedo - Someone we need to speak to as a possible guide. I do not however forget Oliver Whateley from Devil's Canyon. He was a member of "The Hermetic Order Of The Silver Twilight", could this priest be one too?

I do feel we also need to talk to one of the local inhabitants as they may tell or show us thing not know to foreigners, or history and legends that may not be believe, and so over looked by anyone other than us.

? Head Tribe Leader - One of the elders or wise man must have information that will aid us. They need to be treated with respect and the return of the 3 Natives of Easter Islanders.
