DAGGEFORD NPCs – ALLIES

Duke Pwyll “Greatshout” Daggerford (Pwil)

NPCs - Duke Pwyll 'Greatshout' Daggerford
NPC – Duke Pwyll ‘Greatshout’ Daggerford

Cavalier – Human – Male
Duke Pwyll Daggerford, about 25 years old, Human Male, came into his Dukedom very recently. His father, Duke Pryden, fell fighting the onslaught of the forces of Dragonspear Castle. As the oldest, and only, male heir to the name, Pwyll became Duke of Daggerford. Pwyll had a short career as an Adventurer, cut off when his older brother, Merovy, died adventuring along the Unicorn Run and NPCs Duke Pryden realised that his sole remaining heir needed training in how to be a land ruler.

Pwyll chafed against this necessary restriction of his adventuring life, but saw the necessity and acceeded to it.

Pwyll recently gained his nickname of Greatshout after swallowing an unknown potion he discovered in the sack of Dragonspear Castle. Apparently the liquid gave him the ability to shout as if he were using a fabled Horn of Blasting. His voice is considerably roughened from when he set out on that last campaign against evil, but no one has seen or heard him use the Great Shout since he came back from the wars.

There are many stories of its use during the last weeks of the campaign, though. The Long Sword ‘Lawflame’ is the traditional Sword of the NPCs Dukes of Daggerford, dating back to the first Duke, who was given it by Sir Elorfindar Floshin.

Lady Bronwyn Daggerford (BRAWN-win)

NPCs - Lady Bronwyn
NPC – Lady Bronwyn

Wizard – Human – Female
Lady Bronwyn Daggerford, about 28 year’s old, Human Female. The Duke’s lovely sister Bronwyn early developed a desire to rule her father’s Dukedom when he retired or died. However, the Duke was firmly tied to the principle of the oldest son gaining his title, leaving Bronwyn out in the cold.

So Bronwyn developed a friendship with the NPCs Court Wizard, Gwydion pen Dafwyd, and began studying under him. Now she is a proficient Sorceress of her level and anxious to try her powers in a situation of true danger in short, she wants to be an Adventurer and has now found a group of Adventurers that may allow her to join their company.

However, the Ducal advisers are not happy with the idea of either of the old Duke’s remaining children risking their lives in random adventuring until one or the other produces an heir to the ducal coronet. Neither has done so at this time. The Dagger borne by Bronwyn is reputed to be the very one used by the first Daggerford against the Lizard men. Whether it was enchanted to begin with, enchanted after the fact, or not the same Dagger at all, is open to question.

Gwydion pen Dafwyd (GWID-ee-on pen DAV-ud)

NPCs - Gwydion pen Dafwyd
NPC – Gwydion pen Dafwyd

Wizard – Human – Male
Gwydion pen Dafwyd about 65 years old, Court Wizard to the NPCs Duke of Daggerford, Human Male. Gwydion has been at the Court of the Dukes of Daggerford since he was apprenticed to the previous Court Wizard, Mab, 55 years ago. He has been the official Court Wizard for 30 years, ever since Mab retired to a Wizard’s tower near The Way Inn. Rumours are that Mab has since died, but no one has gone to the tower and knocked on the door to be sure. The tower was undisturbed during the incursion from Dragonspear Castle.

Gwydion is very aware of his status as Court Wizard and very class-conscious. He has no time for anyone not of noble blood, even those of common blood who have earned the regard of the Duke. His immediate about-face if any of these Heroes is ennobled is a regular source of amusement to ducal court regulars.

Duke Pwyll has had little to do with his Court Wizard and is rather afraid of him. Lady Bronwyn, on the other hand, considers him a sort of useful Uncle and is very close with her mentor. She acts as go between for her Brother to the Wizard. Gwydion prides himself on his grey hairs and scholarly appearance. He is a self-pronounced expert on the Dukedom’s history and the genealogy of the NPCs Ducal family.

Decisiveness is not Gwydion’s dominant trait. He dithers over a decision for months before coming to an easily swayed conclusion.

Dervin “Stonecaver” Ironaxe has spent much of his life working as a craftsman in the town of Daggerford, alongside his identical twin brother Derval “Ironeater” Ironaxe and their younger brother Korin Ironaxe. Dervin “Stonecaver” Ironaxe is married and has 2 Sons and 2 Daughters, most of who have children of their own.

Dervin “Stonecaver” Ironaxe and his brothers support a fairly large—for Dwarves—extended family with their work. Various family members help out at the forge and hire out for construction work in the area.

Although he regrets the fall of his ancestral home and quietly supports Korin Ironaxe financially in his quest to reclaim Runedardath, Dervin “Stonecaver” Ironaxe is largely content with the life he has forged in Daggerford, much like his twin brother. To his way of thinking, he can safeguard his extended family far more effectively by placing them at the heart of a well-armed settlement of Humans than by forcing them to defend their own Hold with limited numbers.

Dervin “Stonecaver” Ironaxe is a religious Dwarf, who follows the way of Dumathoin, “Keeper of Secrets Under the Mountain”, but he is not a strict traditionalist like his younger brother.  Dervin “Stonecaver” Ironaxe is responsible for the family’s construction business, and his workers have rebuilt the town of Daggerford’s stone towers as well as most of the stone buildings in town.

Dervin “Stonecaver” Ironaxe usually wears a pair of trews, a blacksmith’s apron, and a pair of leather gloves. Dervin “Stonecaver” Ironaxe is far more garrulous than either of his brothers, but he is careful to keep his banter free of any secrets that might endanger his younger brother or his Clan.  Dervin “Stonecaver” Ironaxe can trace his ancestry back to Clan Ironstar, but, like his brothers, he keeps that lineage secret. Likewise, Dervin “Stonecaver” Ironaxe has never spoken of Korin’s plans to anyone outside the close-knit Ironaxe Clan.

The walls are decorated with Weapons, Armour, and Trophies various patrons have brought back from their battles. One interesting feature is a large stone column set in the middle of the floor. On it are inscribed the unique symbols of patrons who have died in battle or disappeared on a quest. Any toast given in the tavern must include a libation to those who have fallen before us.

Owenden Darrylson Orcslayer is always eager to hear tales of Adventuring and to repeat tales he has heard from others, but the only Adventuring he has done has been with the Militia. Its members were from the Sword Coast, the North and Western Heartlands, including Waterdeep, Silverymoon, Baldur’s Gate, and Neverwinter, as well as other free cities and towns in the region, which made up the bulk of the organisation.

It was formed to oppose the growing influence of the Black Network in the North, as well as the Shadow Thieves of Amn.

NPCs – Unknown:

The Harpers were a secret organisation dedicated to promoting good, preserving history (including art and music of old) and maintaining a balance between civilization and nature by keeping kingdoms small and the destruction of animal and plant life to a minimum.

They considered the Elven Empire of Myth Drannor shortly before its fall to be the pinnacle of civilized history and strove to recreate the world in that image.

Over time though, the Harpers established an incredibly effective information network, and earned the respect of religious leaders by using that network to help their causes. In return, they were granted the use of Fortified Temples and Monasteries wherein members could train and recuperate between missions.

Kelthas The Dread and Other NPCs:

The Cult of the Dragon is a secretive fellowship of individuals across Faerûn who believe the prophecies of their founder, Sammaster, a crazed Arch Mage and fallen Chosen of Mystra.

As recorded in the original Tome of the Dragon, Sammaster revealed through the translation of obscure prophecies that the fate of all the nations of Faerûn was to be ruled by undead dragons.

Sammaster’s followers seek to accelerate the coming of that age, by transforming powerful dragons into undead Dracoliches.

The Cult of the Dragon uses the symbol of a flame with eyes burning above a Dragon’s Claw, but Dragon Cultists display it openly only when a cell or individual member can be sure that it will not attract the attention of the Cult’s many dedicated foes.
